Physical Education Learning Area
According to the " PEKLA: An Overview of the Learning Topics in the Six Strands" curriculum guide (2013), Physical Education is "sports activities as a center, focus mainly on learning sports skills, and improving physical fitness as an important task", and appropriate introduction of "sports skills" and "health". Competence in six strands: physical fitness, sports-related values and attitudes, safety knowledge and practice, activity knowledge, and aesthetic ability. Through physical education, students are encouraged to actively participate in different sports, explore their potential, improve their physical fitness, sports knowledge and skills, and establish a sports culture within the school so that students can establish healthy living habits.
Subject targets
- To learn sports skills, acquire relevant knowledge about sports, and develop positive values and attitudes to establish a positive, active and healthy lifestyle.
- Through an active lifestyle, promote physical health, improve physical fitness and physical coordination.
- Develop correct moral behavior, judgment and the ability to appreciate good movements, and learn to cooperate with each other in a group.
- Focus on happy learning experience and sense of success, and induce students to participate in after-school sports training.
Curriculum
Key stage 1 (P1-P3)
- Mainly based on basic activities and sports games. Learn and master movement skills, balance and stability skills and control equipment skills through basic activities and sports games.
- Students can express affection and show creative thinking through different Physical Education activities.
Key stage 2 (P4-P6)
- Based on the content of basic activities, adding physical fitness training and diversified sports activities, such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, football and gymnastics etc.
- In order to cooperate with the overall development of physical education, add new sports: dodging disk, whirlwind ball, etc.
- Let students master basic sports skills, and develop correct moral behavior, judgment and the ability to appreciate on good movements, letting students to practice communication and cooperation in a group.
Physical Education Assessments
P1-P3
- Based on four aspects: 30% on physical fitness, 30% on skills, 20% on attitude, and 20% on theoretical homework.
- Physical fitness: assess students' cardiorespiratory endurance running and muscle endurance.
- Skills: Students can choose skills assessment items (one of three) according to their abilities and interests to show their superiority.
- Attitude: implement student self-evaluation, peer evaluation and teacher evaluation.
P4-P6:
- Based on four aspects: 30% on physical fitness, 30% on skills, 20% on attitude, and 20% on theoretical homework.
- Physical fitness: test students' cardiorespiratory endurance running and muscle endurance.
- Skills: let students choose skills assessment items (choose one of three) according to their abilities and interests to show their superiority.
