Subject targets

The curriculum aims to develop students’ Putonghua skills of listening, speaking and reading as well as using Putonghua Pinyin as a self-learning tool to strengthen the self-learning ability of students. Students learn about different language skills and Chinese culture in Putonghua lessons. This increase their learning motivation and cultivate their positive learning attitude and habit. 

Curriculum Features

Four key teaching and learning areas i.e. listening, speaking, reading and Pinyin spelling are included. Students are equipped with key learning skills as well as related Chinese language cultural knowledge.

Foci of Work in 2023-2024

• Provide opportunities to apply what they have learnt to consolidate their knowledge. This helps students build up positive learning attitude and values.
• Optimize curriculum and teaching strategies to raise students’ motivation and learning effectiveness.

Activities

1. Putonghua Song Dedication (P.1-P.6):
   Students are given more opportunities to listen and speak Putonghua. Putonghua ambassadors will dedicate songs to our teachers and staff to express our gratitude through the school broadcast.

2. Pinyin Mnemonic Chant Competition (P.1-P.2):
   All the classes of P.1 and P.2 join this competition to show their talents. Classes with the best performance with excellent facial expression, body language and props will be the winners of this competition.
3. Tongue Twister Competition (P.3):
   Students with outstanding performance can represent their classes to join this competition.

Highlight

1. Putonghua Song Dedication Our school Putonghua ambassador DJs broadcast ”Putonghua Song Dedication” to the whole school to dedicate songs to those who serve at the campus. 2. Pinyin Mnemonic Chant Competition and Tongue Twister Competition To improve the Putonghua skills and ability of our students as well as strengthen their team spirit, the school held the Pinyin Mnemonic Chant Competition and Tongue Twister Competition. Kei Tsun students all enjoyed the competitions. They’ve even made their own props!
3. The school has incorporated elements of eLearning into our regular lessons to raise their Putonghua ability.
4. Students develop their self-esteem by joining Putonghua events held both inside and outside school.
